@Ton yep I use Akismet, it's kinda unavoidable. Just had a look at the Free Themes Directory http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/. Atahualpa seems interesting. Also Responsive talks to me. And possibly PageLines. But the cost of switching seems quite high. It takes time to compare, test, switch and tweak.

Thanks @Ton, @Randy.

http://josschuurmans.com/2012/05/06/upgrade-and-design-tweaks/

"(...) The backup documentation seemed a bit intimidating at first, but it turns out that my hosting provider offers an option to automate backups via FTP to a server in a different location. We’re doing that once a day now. (...) So I just pushed the upgrade button and that was it. (...)"

So I think that means it's an FTP cron job and btw we're using Webmin. I haven't checked DirectAdmin; might be worth a look.

If you are lucky enough to work with direct admin all you need is to press a few buttons to backup your site (ftp content) along with the database. This is part of the DirectAdmin environment.

Otherwise follow Ton's steps. But be sure to backup the database aswell(!) using phpmyadmin (Export tab)

If you dont want all this husstle (eg, if you need to do this on a daily base) I recommend the use of a cronjob. A bit technical knowledge will help setting up such thing.

I never thought about it very long ;-) Just used my FTP client (filezilla) to copy the complete wordpress directory from the webserver to my own harddisk

Thanks Ton, I will try to take it easy. It's difficult though when you have a schedule. I mean, *how much* easier should I take it? Stop training until I feel nothing? In the mean time I wish I could substitute the cardiovascular aspect with some other exercise that doesn't strain my foot. Swimming, perhaps...

Take it easy Jos! If you feel pain during exercise lower the pace. I once had a little problem with my achilles and for three weeks I only did relatively short runs at a low pace and the problem was solved. If it really hurts during training, stop and wait for a few days

You might want to try out PSPad. Both syntaxis highlighting and FTP connection are avalible right out of the box. I myself am using the application for over 2 years without any issues. The app is lightweight, has a clear interface, is still in development and is totally free : http://www.pspad.com/

Usual tools are includes aswell like search in a dir structure, replace, code clean up etc.

Cheers

This makes me wonder whether "need" is the right lens. That goes too much to the view that journalism is a virtue, even a religion. The people need sermons. Do they? Needs are almost always not fully met. Thus we'll keep mourning about a lack of enough journalism to meet that need.
Perhaps a better perspective would come from looking at value: If we had this much journalism, look at the wonderful things we could do with it.
If we had transparent government, how much more efficient could that make it and coverage of it? If we had more data could we make wiser decisions not only regarding government but also in business? If we had platforms that let us connect with each other, could we solve problems and create value more effectively?
Shifting from need to value is a shift from religion to commerce but you know that I think that's OK.
